Family Day at Gazipur organize by the MSJ Alumni Association

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), MSJ Alumni Association’s ‘Family Day-2021’ has been held on February 26, 2021. The event was held in a joyous atmosphere at the Rangamati Water Front Resort in Gazipur.

Vice-Chancellor of the University HM Zahirul Haque was the chief guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, he said “such an event would build a bridge between the university’s alumni and current students. The university’s communication with alumni will increase.” He called on the alumni to organize such a ‘Family Day’ every year.

The IT Company Gigabyte was the sponsor of this Family Day. They provide T-shirts, mugs, caps, and many other gifts.

The day-long event was attended by MSJ alumni, current students, faculties and their family members.


MSJ Alumni Association celebrate International Mother Language Day

On the morning of the 21st February, the ULAB family paid homage to the language martyrs with flowers at the Shaheed Minar built on the permanent campus of ULAB in Mohammadpur. The MSJ Alumni Association participated in the event.

Syed Manjurul Islam, eminent academic of Ekushey Medal and Professor of English Department of ULAB, presented a wreath in memory of the martyrs.

The newly elected committee of the MSJ Alumni association meets online with MSJ Department Head Prof. Jude William Genilo on 17th December 2020 and with Vice-Chancellor of ULAB Prof. H M Zahirul Haque on 23rd January 2021. Both of them congratulate the first elected committee. The coordinator of the association Mohammad Shazzad Hossain introduces the committee in both of the occasion. The new committee shared their next one-year plan and took suggestions and guidance from them.

The new committee has taken charge

The newly elected committee of the Alumni Association of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) took charge of their respective positions on 18th December Friday 2020.

The convening committee chairman Ariful Islam Arman and general secretary Afia Pina and other members handed over the responsibilities to new committee chairman Abdullah Al Nasser and general secretary Seoul Ahmed at a ceremony in the presence of alumni on Friday.

The convening committee is handing over the responsibilities to the 1st elected committee of the MSJ Alumni Association.


The newly elected committee presented their future work plan and crests were handed over to the convening committee at the ceremony.

The coordinator of the MSJ Alumni Association, Assistant Professor Mohammad Shazzad Hossain was also present at the ceremony. In his remarks, he greeted the new committee and provided inspiring encouragement for the way forward, and announced the ten-member Board of Trustees of the Association.

Earlier, at the annual general meeting, the convening committee presented their achievement and financial status of the association. They also thank the Election Commission for conducting a free and fair election.


A new committee has elected for MSJ Alumni Association

Abdullah Al Nasser and Seoul Ahmed have been elected president and general secretary of the Alumni Association of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). The day-long election was held online on Friday, November 20, 2020.

SM Sajjad Hossain (Sajjad Shovon) has been elected as the joint general secretary of the committee, Ahmed Abdullah Al Mosharraf (Rifat) as the organizing secretary, M Didarul Karim Sikder as the treasurer, and Tanshu Zuberia as the publicity and publication secretary. In addition, 4 people have been elected as members of the executive council. Among them, Kamruzzaman Milu came first, Afroza Priya second, Maliha Wadud Chandni third, and Asif Rahman Khan fourth.

 The election was held from 8 am to 4 pm. Chief Election Commissioner Aritra Ankon Mitra announced the results of the election on Facebook Live at 6 pm. Regarding the election, he said, “The election was held in a very fair atmosphere throughout the day. No candidate or voter has complained to us about the voting process and results.”

The date has been announced for the 1st Executive Committee Election

MSJ Alumni Association has been announced the date to elect its 1st Executive Committee on August 6. The election process will start on September 30, 2020, and the election date is scheduled for November 20, 2020. To conduct the election smoothly a three-member commotion has declared also where Aritra Ankan Mitra is the Chief Election Commissioner, Shikha Taslima Kishan, and Daud Ur Rashid is the Election Commissioner. The Election Commission declared that only registered members of the MSJ Alumni Association, ULAB till September 30 will be eligible as candidates and voters.


ULAB Pays Tribute to Professor Brian Shoesmith

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) paid tribute to Professor Brian Shoesmith, who was a former head of the Media Studies and Journalism Department of the university. Professor Brian passed away on January 30, 2020. ULAB MSJ Alumni Association organized the memorial meeting on February 7, 2020, at the permanent campus auditorium of the university at Mohammadpur.

The program started with a speech by Professor Jude William R. Genilo, the current Head of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism. Professor Jude commemorated Professor Brian’s significant contribution to the department profoundly. He said when Brian started his journey with the department; the infrastructure and other facilities were very minimal. It was Brian who took the initiative to establish a media lab for the department.

Juditha Ohlmacher, a member of the Board of Trustees of ULAB and Professor H. M. Jahirul Haque, the vice-chancellor of the university also delivered a speech in the program commemorating Brian’s contribution to the university. They also shared their personal memories of  Brian.

Professor Shameem Reza of the University of Dhaka, Marium Akther, part-time faculty of MSJ ULAB, several alumni including Elizabeth D Costa and Raffael Ahsan also reminisced the works of Professor Brian. MSJ faculty members and former students of the department, among others, were present on the occasion.

Professor Brian served as the Head of the Media Studies and Journalism Department of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh from September 2006 to September 2008. Later he joined ULAB as the Dean for Academic Development and a Senior Advisor for Strategic Planning, Board of Trustees.

Convening Committee of MSJ Alumni Formed

The convening committee of the alumni association of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) of the University of Liberal arts Bangladesh (ULAB) was formed on February 7, 2020. A 15-member committee was declared following an alumni meeting that took place at the permanent campus auditorium in Mohammadpur.

Ariful Islam Arman and Afia Pina were nominated as the president and secretary respectively. Other members of the committee are- Md. Obaidur Rashid Mamun (Vice-president), Adnan Rashid (Joint Secretary), Nishat Sharmin (Finance Secretary), Hasnat Piash (Organizing Secretary), Modina Jahan Rime (Press Secretary). A.S.M Riad Arif, Daud Ur Rashid, Sharmin Akhtar Pinky, Dil Afrose Jahan, Ayesha Khanom, Aritra Ankan Mitra, Taslima Akter Shikha, and Alvi Hossain were selected as the executive members of the committee.
